REDCAI, S.A. is entrusted with all LNG carriers built in Spain The Contract of the Century

 How everything started …

The construction of LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) vessels plays a significant role in the shipping industry worldwide, which is concentrated in a few yards, most of them Asian, especially Japanese and Korean.

From this market perspective, at the turn of year 2000, IZAR’s Spanish yards got a contract through which they committed themselves to construct four LNG carriers at first and subsequently one more was added;  two of them were to be  constructed at Sestao yards and three at Puerto Real. They were vessels with similar characteristics such as 138.000 m³ membrane tanks and steam turbine propulsion. This operation was called “The Contract of the Century” (Spanish Civil Marine, no 60).Due to the success obtained in this bussines, and the excellent job  done, Knutsen Oas ordered their third LNG to Sestao Shipyard, which made the 6th vessel built in SpainCatalunya Spirit2Catalunya Spirit

Two of these constructions (NB-319 and NB-105) were ordered by Naviera F. Tapias, nowadays Naviera Teekay, other two (NB-321 and NB-103) were ordered by Knutsen Oas-Marpetrol and the NB-87 by Empresa Naviera Elcano. The 6th LNG carrier was delivered to the owner, in 2008 by La Naval (Sestao)

Supply and Commissioning of Navigation and Communication equipment of these SIX vessels was entrusted to REDCAI, S.A. because of its reliability and extensive experience in the sector. Such installation consisted of the Furuno Voyager integrated bridge, Lloyds Register class notation NAV1 IBS, and also of the Furuno GMDSS and INMARSAT equipment, in each one of the constructions.

Due to the success achieved with these vessels, the IZAR’s Sestao yard has built its third LNG. The electronic equipment of this vessel has, once more, entrusted to REDCAI, S.A. as a result of the reliability shown, the success achieved, our highly skilled technicians and the undeniable quality of our equipment.

For the sixth time, REDCAI, S.A installed the FURUNO VOYAGER integrated bridge in a LNG carrier in Spain

A system made up of navigation equipment such as ARPA/radars, ECDIS, Conning, Track Pilot, GPS, echo sounders, alarms, etc. The most demanding and efficient composition of the bridge permits to have all the navigation data accessible constantly and continuously

NAV1 IBS, One Man Bridge Operation. Indeed, thanks to the conning information display, with just one look you have access to all the navigation data, owing to the equipment integration. This way, through the navigation equipment, it works out the precise position of the vessel, the distance, the heading and the rate of turn, all including navigation and berthing modes.
